05-19-2017 GAME THREAD: Rockies Land In GABP

by Mary 19. May 2017 18:06

Yikes--not only do the Rockies have the most wins in the NL, they are also 13-6 on the road (better than their 13-10 at home).  Let's hope Mr. Bonilla is as good as he was in his debut last weekend and that the offense remembers that the goal is to score one run at least more than the defense gives up.

Absolutely NO excuse for BH not choking up and slapping at the ball there with 2 strikes and two runners on base--again.

Absolutely no excuse for Kivelehan getting thrown out at third with Zach and Joey behind BH.

Lord, when will this mess end?

Mental mistakes, refusing to do what is best for the team by BH absolutely drives me up a wall--and I like both those guys.

I apologize for my recent absence from participation. I was attempting to avoid dragging you guys into this type of mood. I just am struggling to find anything positive to comment about. Bats went to sleep. Starting pitching has gone off the rails. Bullpen is trying to follow that lead. Not agreeing with management decisions on the roster. I haven't been happy with the field leadership. Etc, etc.
Of course, they run off a couple of wins and I'll jump right back on the horse.

I think this all started with sending Garrett down to save innings. Wrong message to send a team that was competing. The worst possible results of that move have snowballed into a bigger mess. Should have gotten Amir some rest after Finnegan. Bailey, Disco, Reed, whoever became available. Just my thoughts!

Hey Dawg,

Good to hear from you.

Things have really gone south recently, that's for sure. I feel guilty for complaining so much--we obviously do not have good SP--and we all know that will eventually lead to long losing streaks--no matter the team, but especially with a lot of young guys.

All that said, as I stated above, it's the mental lapses, lack of team firt attitudes, that have always driven me crazy as a coach--something I just simply would not tolerate. You could miss a layup, dribble a ball off your foot, make a bad pass occasionally, I usually said nothing.

Don't use the fundamentals I taught, both on offense and defense, don't remember plays, defenses, forget the defense we were in, not know the score at all times, how much time was on the clock, not know the opponents weaknesses and strengths on defense, not give a 100% effort all the time, don't box out on defensive rebounds, etc. etc., your butt was going to hit the bench. Now, if 16-18 year old kids can remember that, I don't know why pros can't?

By the way, you make a good point on the Garrett  move at the time they made it. I was for doing it, of course, but the timing could have been on down the road. I must admit, I never thought of that.

Good to see the Reds still had some fight in them after I went to bed last night. Post game comments from Price expressed regret he had to leave Wendy in for forty pitches. Indications of more roster moves before today's game. Maybe someone will Carpe Diem. Sure could use an unexpected boost about now.

Some tough luck for BA there. Hanniagn was all tied up on his squibber down the RF line, and the pitcher, after failing in 2 bunt attempts slaps one over the head of Duvall who was playing shallow in LF to prevent a blooper falling in by the pitcher--both come around to score. Not much you can do about either.

You know, my guess is BA just might tell the Reds he thinks he is done after today? I can't imagine him going to a relief role this late in his career, and he sure has struggled lately. Even his couple of good games were against a couple of teams who had no offense at the time .

Hard to know for sure, but my guess is if BA thinks this is not going to work out, they won't have to tell him anything?
