05-07-2016 GAME THREAD: Streaks and Ends of Streaks

by Mary 7. May 2016 17:22
The Reds are currently on a three game win streak (as Hebron said at the end of the prior thread, thanks God for the Brewers) but have, to our great relief (pun?) ended the streak of games in which the bullpen allowed at least one run at a record 23 games.  Hope to see some more Votto and BP home runs so we can see this again:  By the way, Brian Giesenschlag ‏@BGiesenschlag  2h2 hours ago   On his much publicized celebrations with Brandon Phillips Votto credits Bryce Harper's edict to make the game fun again.   Some changes to the record setting pen were made today per the Enquirer: On Saturday, the Cincinnati Reds demoted right-hander J.J. Hoover to Triple-A Louisville in one of several moves. Hoover is making $1.4 million in his first year of salary arbitration and entered the season as Aroldis Chapman's replacement at closer. The Reds also placed right-hander Jon Moscot on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Tuesday and transferred catcher Devin Mesoraco to the 60-day disabled list. That created enough room for relievers Drew Hayes and Steve Delabar to come up from Triple-A.

05-02-2016 GAME THREAD: Cueto Returns and Mesoraco Out

by Mary 2. May 2016 18:33
It looks like Tucker Barnhardt is becoming ever more essential  to the Reds as Devin Mesoraco was placed on the DL today with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.  Rotten luck continues, as Snacks has pretty much been disabled since he signed the multiyear contract. On a slightly happier front, Johnny Kueto starts tonight against his old team.  Should be fun to see him again.

Reds pitching is on a hopefully unrealistic pace to completely obliterate the single season home runs allowed by a team record.  As has been the case often when losing, most (in yesterday's game, all) of the opposition scoring happens along the lines of walk a batter or two then give up a long ball.

by Mary 21. April 2016 17:05
It's been two seasons so far:  home and road.  Needless to say, the home games have been a lot more fun, as the Reds have won all three series so far while only managing a single win in six road games.  Which team will show up tonight?

Now, honestly, who would you rather watch--the originally scheduled, but tender bicepped, Alfredo Simon, or top prospect Robert Stephenson?   I thought so.

The Reds are giving away fleece blankets today to the first 20,000 who show up. That assumes 20,000 will show up. They didn't reach that total either of the past two games. Wind chill at gametime is scheduled to be 26 degrees.

04-06-2016 GAME THREAD: Will the Reds Stay Unbeaten on Opening Night?

by Mary 6. April 2016 13:11
Or will the (not)phabulous Phils --or the weather--do them in?  I surely hope that the weather forecast I saw for tonight is wrong and that it does not rain and blow etc.  After a day off yesterday, a rainout is not what anyone wants. I vaguely remember early last season had a plethora of rain delays and that is not something that needs repeating. Can Zack Cozart stay hot? Will Joey Votto show up before game time?  Time to find out tonight.
