09-24-2016 GAME THREAD: The Season Is Crawling to the End for The Reds

by Mary 24. September 2016 14:55
Just about the only question remaining in the Reds season is whether or not Homer Bailey pitches again.  Price hinted that he might start Monday night.  Guess we will have to wait and see.

09-16-2016 GAME THREAD:GG Brings You the Buccos

A strange 4 game series with the Pirates starts tonight, with a day-night doubleheader tomorrow and a Sunday day game. Only two of the games are being carried by FSOhio (no makeup game and bumped by the Bengals - Steelers game on Sunday). Such is life when your team is in last place.

09-09-2016 GAME THREAD: The End Is Near (of the Reds Season That Is)

by Mary 9. September 2016 15:44
Time for a new thread as the magic 7 days and LOCK is about to happen.  Nothing much to say except I have not liked the way the team has played in the past week and hope that this is not how the remainder of the season plays out.  I really miss Billy Hamilton in the lineup and I think the Reds do too.

09-02-2016 GAME THREAD: Time to Check Out the Kids Coming Up

by Mary 2. September 2016 11:12
Just as soon as the Bats' season ends, we will see a few new faces on the big league bench and hopefully field.  I am expecting mostly non-pitchers, as many of the top pitching prospects have been seen and/or are also reaching their inning limits, as the innings in AA/AAA count just as much as those in the big leagues.  Who do you think will be in a Reds' uniform this time next week?

08/24/2016 GAME THREAD: Billy Ball Keeps Things Very Interesting Indeed

by Mary 24. August 2016 12:48
Billy Hamilton has become what we all hoped he would be -- a game changer.  His defense continues to absolutely amaze everyone.  Dan Straily has been a particularly fortunate pitcher to have many of Billy's most spectacular catches occur while he is pitching.  Straily always cheers when they happen and the two of them make the highlight reels. The sixth inning last night showcased one of the most mind boggling catches (and that is saying something when you look at his complete body of work) Hamilton has made.  It was definitely a defining moment in the game and kept the shutout against one of the highest scoring teams in baseball intact.  Hope to see more of the same in the future.

08-09-2016 GAME THREAD: Time To Forget

by Mary 9. August 2016 16:17
I never want to see Tony Cingrani (or Ohlendorf) in at the end of a game with the opportunity to allow the tieing run anywhere near the plate.  Last night's abomination may have come with Ohlendorf pitching, but it was all on Cingrani.  He came into  the game in a NON SAVE situation and managed to get two outs but did his all too frequent free fall into total wildness and managed to leave the game with three runners already in and three more on base.  That's SIX batters he put on base.  Where was Iglesias?  He is one I feel much more confident about closing out a game. Tonight had better be different.

07-27-16: LINEUP FOR TODAY'S GAME AND DOCPROC'S DREAM REBUILD

by DocProc 27. July 2016 13:27
Here is the Reds' lineup for today's 3:45 EDT game against SF: Hamilton 8 Cozart 6 Votto 3 Bruce 9 Duvall 7 Phillips 4 Suarez 5 Barnhart 2 Straily 1 And here is a (lengthy) pipe dream I sent to SonOfDoc this morning. Though ya'll might find it amusing. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;} Dick Williams steps up and says, “Okay, Walt and Bryan—you’ve had your turn. It’s time for me to take over.” Price, you’re fired. You keep playing vets instead of youngsters, so you’re standing in the way of the rebuild. Buh-bye. Bruce and Cozart, you’re traded. Thanks for your service, but you’re not part of our future. Wishing you the best on your new teams. BP, you’re traded too—but if you won’t accept it, then you’re riding pine. You are not our future. Here’s our lineup, starting now: Hamilton CF Peraza SS Votto 1b Duvall 3b Winker LF Barnhart C (just breaking up the lefties) Schebler RF (who is 25—start him NOW) Renda 2b (who is 25—start him NOW) Let me pause here and make the case for Renda again. He’s hitting .314/.360 this year in AA/AAA with 26 doubles, 16 SBs, and only 30 Ks in 361 PAs. He’s a .290/.360 career hitter in the minors, so this isn’t new. He’s 25 and we picked him up in the Chapman deal, SO LET’S GIVE HIM A SHOT. Rotation: Bailey Disco Garrett (who is 24—start him NOW) Stephenson or Reed (or maybe someone we get in the trades for Bruce/Cozart) Straily (perfect #5, or long man in the ‘pen if need be) Bullpen: Iglesias Lorenzen Lamb Finnegan Cingrani (but please, not as closer) Someone we get in the trades for Bruce/Cozart Anyone other than Ross F. Ohlendorf Bench: Don’t care. Might have to be BP and Suarez if we can’t trade them. Don’t care. I’m okay with DeJesus, Holt, and Cabera because at least they’re not top prospects dying on the pine. Don’t care.   THAT is what a rebuild looks like. Get those youngsters playing NOW and see what we have in the last two months of the season.
