05-22-2017 GAME THREAD: The Battle for Ohio Begins

by Mary 22. May 2017 17:18
Back to back series in Cincinnati and Cleveland with the first two games at GABP  and the next two in Cleveland.  Not sure what to expect from the Reds.  They seem to have plenty of offense (and don't throw in the towel when they get behind), but wow, can they also give up the runs.  Really would like to see that slow down.  Still no imminent signs of the cavalry riding in from the DL to pick up the starting pitching.

05-19-2017 GAME THREAD: Rockies Land In GABP

by Mary 19. May 2017 18:06
Yikes--not only do the Rockies have the most wins in the NL, they are also 13-6 on the road (better than their 13-10 at home).  Let's hope Mr. Bonilla is as good as he was in his debut last weekend and that the offense remembers that the goal is to score one run at least more than the defense gives up.

A new series starts tonight and it would be nice to start a new win streak as well.  Losing three in a row after that 17 inning game sucked the life out of the momentum the Reds carried into SF.  Maybe it can be regained in Chicago.

Bronson Arroyo starts off the four game series against the team that it seems the Reds just played (only two games since they last met on Sunday).  Let's hope for good Arroyo tonight and a repeat of the offense that lit up the Giants last weekend.

by Mary 8. May 2017 10:37
A very successful homestand concludes with a short two game series versus the Bronx Bombers (does anyone still call them that?).  They are coming off a series sweep of the Cubs that combined with the Reds sweep of the Giants puts the Reds in sole possession (at least for today) of first place in the NL Central.  I am hoping that the letdown (and exhaustion) from their 18 inning win last night leads to a couple of Reds' wins.

The Reds have gotten back to the .500 mark for the sesason.  Sure would be nice to end this upcoming three game series with a winning record.  Bronson Arroyo gets the first opportunity in Friday's game, which for some reason starts at 6:40 PM instead of 7:10.

by Mary 1. May 2017 17:57
Lets hope for a better outcome than the last time the Reds were at home. Amir Garrett is pitching tonight and needs to get back to where he was his first two outings of the season (well, close to them at least, as they were outstanding).  Schebler and Duvall are heating up, and Joey is being Joey of a different sort (less walks, more home runs), and Snacks is back with two hits in his first five times at the plate.   Has there been any word on the walking wounded pitching staff?  ... The Reds did pretty well the first time through St. Louis this year, but have fallen on hard times since then.  Can the decent starting pitching we saw them return and give the offense a fighting chance to come out on top?  Sure hope so, or this could be a really long summer.

Here's hoping Amir Garrett continues his sterling starts tonight against the slugging Brewers.  We can hope Eric Thames is entering a cold spell and doesn't go on another HR spree this week.

With the news that Tony Cingrani is on the 10 day DL and Phillip Ervin called up, we see more roster changes.  We can expect some more in the very near future as Devin Mesoraco and Rookie Davis should be back in a few days.     Let's hope the offense remembers what the bats are to be used for and actually support what has been very good pitching this home stand.
